How to Use the Timer on Mobile

This guide walks you through how to start the timer and where to find active timers on your mobile application

Track time accurately while you work. Available on iOS and Android β€” starting and stopping a work order timer is now instant on both platforms.

Overview

The Timer feature in UpKeep's mobile app lets technicians log time on a Work Order with a single tap. Starting and stopping the timer feels instant, an active timer is visible from your Homepage, and iPhone users get a live Dynamic Island view that runs even outside the app.

How to Start a Timer

  1. Open the UpKeep Mobile App

  2. Navigate to your list of Work Orders

  3. Tap into the Work Order you're ready to begin

  4. Tap Start Working

The timer starts immediately and continues running until you manually stop it.

Where to Find Active Timers

If you leave a Work Order without stopping the timer:

  • The active timer is visible on your Homepage, under the Suggested Work Orders section. This visibility is limited to your account and not visible to other users during active tracking.

Dynamic Island Timers (iOS Only)

If you're using an iPhone with Dynamic Island support:

  • Once you start a Work Order, a live timer appears in the Dynamic Island at the top of your screen.

  • You'll see the Work Order time running even while you're outside the app.

  • Tap the timer to return directly to the Work Order.

You can also stop the timer directly from the push notification, without opening the app. This shortcut is available on iOS devices only.

Best Practices

  • Always tap Stop Working when you finish a task to ensure accurate time logs.

  • Use Dynamic Island for quick visibility if you're on a compatible iOS device.

FAQ

  • Can I run multiple timers at once? Yes, you can have the timer running across multiple work orders.

  • Does the timer work offline? The timer starts immediately regardless of connectivity. The network sync happens in the background so the UI is never blocked waiting for a response.
