How to Enable and Use GPS Features in the UpKeep Mobile App (iOS)

UpKeep’s new GPS-based automation helps you manage timers and shift status more efficiently when arriving at or leaving a work site.

Updated over a week ago

Available on iOS
📍 Requires Location Tracking permissions
👤 Primary Worker role required for triggers

When GPS tracking is enabled:

  • You'll be notified to start the timer on a Work Order when arriving near a job site.

  • You’ll receive a reminder to stop the timer and go off shift as you leave the location.

  • These triggers are based on your proximity (within 100 meters) to a Location tied to a Work Order or Asset.

🚨 You must be listed as the Primary Worker on the Work Order to receive these automatic prompts.

How to Enable Location Tracking in the UpKeep App

  1. Open the UpKeep app on your iOS device

  2. Tap the Settings tab in the bottom navigation bar

  3. Scroll down and select "Disable Location Monitoring"

  4. Toggle the setting OFF

  5. Follow any on-screen prompts to allow location access in your device settings

Once enabled, you’ll start receiving:

  • A push notification when approaching the site: “Looks like you’ve arrived! Start your Work Order?”

  • A second prompt as you leave: “Leaving for the day? Stop the timer and go off shift?”

Example Workflow

Let’s say you're a technician assigned as the Primary Worker for a Work Order at a location in New York:

  • As you approach the site, a reminder appears on your lock screen to start the timer.

  • When the day ends and you’re 100+ meters away from the location, another notification asks if you’d like to go off shift, taking you directly to your shift settings.

📴 Going off shift stops further notifications from being sent to you outside of work hours.

Best Practices

  • Make sure Location Services are enabled for UpKeep in your iOS settings.

  • Use this feature only on devices that are assigned to individual users for accurate triggers.

  • Check that the Location is correctly assigned to the Work Order or its Asset.
