How to Create, Edit, and Remove Custom Asset Fields

This doc is intended to show you how to create new custom fields for data storage on your assets!

Asset Custom Fields in UpKeep provide a flexible way to customize and enhance the information you monitor for your assets, tailoring it to your organization's unique requirements. These fields play a crucial role in filtering, exporting, and generating reports on your assets, ensuring that you can efficiently manage and analyze asset-related data. 🛠️📊📋


Creating an Asset Custom Field

  1. Navigate to Settings in the lower left-hand corner of your account

  2. Click the “fields” tab at the top of this page

  3. Select “assets” note this is the only option at this time

  4. You will see a list of fields. Click the “create” button

  5. From here you will be able to choose what field type you want and give it a title!

  6. When done hit save

  7. You should now see this field in the list.

It will also now show on the Assets pages list as a column for viewing, and you will be able to view the field on the assets themselves.


How to edit an asset custom field

  1. Click Settings in the bottom left corner of your account

  2. Click the “Fields” tab at top of the page

  3. Click “Assets”

  4. Select the existing field from the list

  5. Make edits and when done click save

⚠️Editing custom fields will apply the changes across all assets

Changes can now be seen on the filters, columns and assets themselves under the asset page.


How To Delete An Asset Custom Field

🚫⚠️Warning: Deleting is permanent! Be cautious when removing items as this action cannot be undone. 🚫⚠️

🚫⚠️Deleted Fields would remove that data point from all assets. 🚫⚠️

  1. Click Settings in the bottom left corner of your account

  2. Click the “Fields” tab at top of the page

  3. Click "Assets”

  4. Find the field you want to remove, move your cursor to the end and click the delete option.
