Nova Apps: Getting Started

Learn how to get started with next-generation custom apps inside UpKeep Nova and the Intelligence platform.

UpKeep Nova Apps bring a next-generation, conversational application experience directly into your workspace. Built inside the UpKeep Intelligence platform, these apps allow you to automate complex tasks, build custom dashboards, and trigger real-time actions using natural language.

This guide outlines what is available today during our soft-launch, how to access your custom apps, and what to expect on the upcoming roadmap.

Key Capabilities

Nova Apps provide the following:

  • Intelligence Integration: Access all your custom apps from a single, dedicated tab inside the Intelligence platform.

  • Real-World Action: Create apps that perform direct modifications, automate data updates, and trigger custom workflows across your account.

  • Deeper API Access: Nova's next-generation architecture unlocks a richer set of actions, ensuring full functional parity with legacy Studio and more.

  • Secure Building: Authorize UpKeep product specialists to build and customize apps on your behalf, saving them directly to your account.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Access the Intelligence Tab: Log in to your UpKeep web app and click Intelligence in the left-hand navigation sidebar.

  2. Open the Apps Library: Select the dedicated Apps tab at the top of the Intelligence workspace to view your active custom applications.

  3. Run Your App: Click on any custom app in your library to launch its interface and pull live, permission-scoped data from your account.

  4. Iterate with Nova: If a conversational app requires adjustment, type your feedback or requested changes directly into the Nova interaction panel. Nova will automatically rebuild the app's logic to match your workflow.

  5. Track Credit Usage: Custom app creation and execution consume your workspace credits. You can monitor your current consumption and credit limits in your subscription settings.

Best Practices

  • Communicate Direct Instructions: When refining an app, tell Nova exactly what needs to be changed (e.g., "add a priority filter" or "sort by creation date"). Nova handles the logical heavy lifting automatically.

  • Monitor Credit Consumption: Building custom workflows consumes credits. If you need additional capacity for testing during this soft-launch period, reach out to your Customer Success Manager.

  • Document App Workflows: Maintain clear internal records of what each custom app does and which teams should utilize them to maximize operational efficiency.

Common Use Cases

  • Custom Work Order Auditing: Identify completed work orders that have been re-opened, surfacing training opportunities or operational bottlenecks.

  • Asset Performance Dashboards: Aggregate real-time metrics across multiple sites to spot capacity crunches before they impact your schedules
