Nova is your AI assistant inside UpKeep β built to help you move faster, make better decisions, and cut out manual work. Click Ask Nova from any page in UpKeep to open Nova in your sidebar. Nova can see what page you're on and uses that as context for your questions.

π§ Accessing Nova
Click the Ask Nova button from any page in UpKeep. Drag it to reposition if it covers something you need.
Nova opens in a sidebar. Click the arrows to expand it to full-screen.
Start a new chat anytime using the pencil icon.
π§ Modes of Use
Nova includes three modes so you can learn, test, and run tasks with the right level of control:
Playground Mode β Try It Safely
What it does: Simulates actions in a sandbox with test data.
Why use it: Great for learning how to prompt Nova without making real changes.
Example: Ask Nova to create a facility, assets, and work orders. You'll see examples, but nothing is saved.
Ask Mode β Confirm Before Changes
What it does: Prepares a plan and asks you to confirm each step before changes are applied.
Why use it: Perfect for running real actions while keeping full control.
Example: Ask Nova to create a new location with assets β you'll confirm the location, then the assets, then the work orders.
Agent Mode β Full Autonomy
What it does: Executes requests immediately without step-by-step confirmations.
Why use it: Best for confident users who want speed and automation.
Example: "Triage my pending requests" will immediately update statuses, priorities, and reasons in your account.

Triage Requests β "Triage my pending requests." Nova updates priorities, flags duplicates, and approves/declines with reasons.
Analyze Work Orders β "Analyze my work orders and highlight the assets with the most activity."
Create Preventive Maintenance β "Create PMs for the top three assets with the most work orders."
Build Complex Checklists β "Generate a multi-step inspection checklist for HVAC units with nested items." Nova now handles nested and multi-step checklist generation reliably.
Generate Test Data β In Playground Mode, simulate facilities, assets, and work orders to see how Nova thinks.
Upload Files β Attach a PDF, CSV, or image directly in chat.
PDFs β Extract information from manuals and create assets, parts, or PM schedules.
CSVs β Map columns into UpKeep fields for bulk imports.
Images β Store photos with work orders, assets, or requests.
Tip: Use the paperclip icon in the chat bar to upload files.
β Reviewing Results
All real actions appear in your UpKeep CMMS:
Requests β Decline reasons and updated priorities are saved automatically.
Work Orders β Check for changes in priority, dates, and assignments. Custom fields are now applied correctly.
Assets & Locations β Confirm new records and relationships.
Use list filters (e.g., "last updated") to quickly find what Nova created or modified.

Start in Playground Mode if you're new β it's a safe place to practice.
Use Ask Mode when you're ready for real actions but still want control.
Switch to Agent Mode once you're confident and want faster execution.
Lean into longer conversations β Nova now retains context across hundreds of messages, so you can keep building on prior work without re-explaining.
Reposition the Ask Nova button to a spot that doesn't cover the data you're working with.
Use the per-response thumbs up / thumbs down to tell us which answers hit the mark β feedback directly improves Nova.

How long can a Nova conversation get before it loses context?
Nova now reliably maintains context across 100β300+ messages in a single conversation. It compresses and retains what matters as the conversation grows.
Can I move the Ask Nova button?
Yes. The button is fully draggable β click and drag it anywhere on your screen.
How do I give feedback on Nova's answers?
Use the thumbs up / thumbs down buttons on any individual Nova response.
