What Does It Mean to Manage a CAPA?

Managing a CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) involves reviewing the CAPA details, verifying root cause findings, tracking progress on proposed actions, and ensuring verification of effectiveness is completed. CAPAs are essential for resolving incidents and preventing future occurrences.

How to Review and Take Action on a CAPA

  1. Select the CAPA to Review

    • Navigate to the CAPAs tab in the EHS module

    • Click on the CAPA title you'd like to open

  2. Review CAPA Overview

    • Confirm the CAPA type, severity, location, and due date

    • Read the Root Cause Analysis Summary to understand the linked incident

    • View Linked To for incident reference

  3. Review Proposed Actions

    • Read the corrective and preventive steps listed under Proposed Actions

    • Ensure the actions directly address the root cause

  4. Track Actual Actions Taken

    • Monitor whether tasks have been implemented under Actual Actions Taken

    • Review who completed the actions and when

  5. Verify Effectiveness

    • Review the Verification of Effectiveness (VoE) section

    • Ensure findings are documented and the outcome is confirmed

  6. Update CAPA Status

    • Adjust the CAPA status as needed: Open, In Review, or Closed

  7. Generate Work Orders (if needed)

    • Click + Create Work Order to assign tasks related to the CAPA

  8. Collaborate via Comments

    • Use the Comments section to tag teammates, share updates, or request reviews

Best Practices

  • Ensure every CAPA is linked to a verified root cause

  • Use the due date field to manage accountability and deadlines

  • Keep status updates timely to reflect current progress

  • Create work orders for clear task execution and tracking
