What you’ll need

  • A small Phillips screwdriver

  • Cellular service

Keep in mind

The order of the steps is important! In general make sure you always:

  1. Add gateways in the dashboard first.

  2. Power on your gateways second.

  3. Add your sensors to the dashboard third.

  4. And finally, place the batteries in your sensor last.

Main steps

1. Navigate to the UpKeep Edge dashboard

Visit https://app.onupkeep.com/web/edge OR click the Edge icon in the sidebar of the main UpKeep web application (app.onupkeep.com). You’ll be taken to a list of your sensors, which will be empty given you have not yet added any sensors or gateways.

2. Add a gateway

Tap the “Gateways” link in the top-right menu (on your mobile device you’ll need to tap the three dots to reveal the menu). This will take you to the “Gateways” page. Tap the “Add Gateway” button. Scan the QR code located on the bottom of the gateway. The appropriate fields will be filled in from the QR code scan. If you prefer, you can change the name of your gateway and associate it with an asset and/or location. You can always change these values later as well.

Tap “Submit” to register and save your gateway.

Find an area to place your gateway. For best results, place your gateway in an open area with good cell reception. Plugin your gateway, and turn on the power switch. You should see the small LED lights to the right of the power button flash red and green for a moment and turn green once the gateway is ready. A green “connected” indicator will also show up next to the gateway in the UpKeep Sensors dashboard.

3. Add a sensor

Tap the “Sensors” link in the top-right menu (on your mobile device you’ll need to tap the three dots to reveal the menu). This will take you to the “Sensors” page. Tap the “Add Sensor” button. Scan the QR code located on the bottom of the sensor. Again, this will populate the relevant fields, and if you prefer, you can change the name of the sensor and associate it with an asset and/or location. You can always change these values later as well.

Tap “Submit” to register and save your sensor.

Add the included AA batteries to the sensor by unscrewing the sensor’s top panel with a small Phillips screwdriver, placing the batteries in the sensor, and then re-screwing the top panel using the included screws.

Within a couple of minutes, the sensor should start transmitting messages and a green “connected” indicator will show up next to it in the UpKeep Sensors dashboard.

Mount your sensor in the desired location, using the included mounting screws or adhesive if necessary.

Repeat for all sensors.

That’s it!

Your sensors should now be online and you should be receiving readings.
