Quick Start Guide to Edge

Available With: UpKeep Edge Subscription

What you’ll need

  • A small Phillips screwdriver

  • Cellular service

Keep in mind

The order of the steps is important! In general make sure you always:

  1. Add gateways in the dashboard first.

  2. Power on your gateways second.

  3. Add your sensors to the dashboard third.

  4. And finally, power on your sensor last.

Main steps

1. Navigate to the UpKeep Edge dashboard

Visit https://app.onupkeep.com/web/edge OR click the Edge icon in the sidebar of the main UpKeep web application (app.onupkeep.com).

2. Add a gateway

Click the “Gateways” link in the top menu. This will take you to the “Gateways” page. Click the “Add Gateway” button.

In the form that follows, select "upkeep" as the "Device Provider" (this is the default option) and then enter a name for the gateway. The name can be anything that makes helps you identify the gateway. It's often helpful to use a name that incorporates the location or purpose of the gateway (e.g. Plant 1 Gateway). For the "Vendor device id" field, enter the "ID" number located on the bottom of the gateway. For the "Vendor device code" field, enter the "SC" value also located on bottom of the gateway.

Set the reading frequency (default and minimum value is every 10 minutes) and the Location and Asset if desired. If your gateway is a central collection point for sensors located across a number of assets as is often the case, you probably will only need to set the Location. Click "Submit" to save your Gateway.

Find an area to place your gateway. For best results, place your gateway in an open area with good cell reception. Plugin your gateway, and turn on the power switch. You should see the small LED lights to the right of the power button flash red and green for a moment and turn green once the gateway is ready. A green “connected” indicator will also show up next to the gateway in the UpKeep Sensors dashboard.

3. Add a sensor

Click the “Sensors” link in the top-right menu. This will take you to the “Sensors” page. Click the “Add Sensor” button.

Follow the same steps that you did when adding a gateway, but note that the "ID" and "SC" values are located on the side of the sensor instead of the bottom. Set your preferred reading frequency (again, the default is 10 minutes) and the sensor's Asset and/or Location (you'll typically want to associate a sensor with a specific Asset). Click “Submit” to save your sensor.

Your sensor comes with batteries included. To activate the sensor, flip the power switch on. Within a couple of minutes, the sensor should start transmitting messages and a green “connected” indicator will show up next to it in the UpKeep Sensors dashboard.

Mount your sensor in the desired location, using the included mounting screws or adhesive if necessary.

Repeat for all sensors.

That’s it!

Your sensors should now be online and you should be receiving readings.
