Required tasks allow you to mark individual tasks as mandatory, instead of requiring an entire checklist or work order. You can also require specific task inputs—such as photos or notes—before a technician can complete the task and close the work order.

This gives you more control over task completion while keeping flexibility for the rest of the checklist.

Create required tasks in the checklist builder

You can mark tasks as required when building a checklist.

Steps

  1. Go to Checklists and create a new checklist (or edit an existing one)

  2. Add a task to the checklist

  3. Toggle Required on for the task

  4. (Optional) Select which task inputs are required:

    • Attachments

    • Notes

    • Photos

    • URLs

  5. Repeat for additional tasks as needed

  6. Save the checklist

Notes

  • A task must be marked as required before its inputs (photos, notes, etc.) can be required.

  • You can use the Mark all tasks as required option to require every task in the checklist.

  • Required tasks also work with child tasks and conditional tasks.

What required tasks look like on a work order

When a checklist with required tasks is added to a work order:

  • Required tasks are clearly labeled.

  • Technicians cannot complete the task unless all required inputs are provided.

  • The work order cannot be closed until all required tasks are completed.
