Need to connect related Work Orders? UpKeep’s Work Order Linking feature allows you to associate multiple Work Orders that are connected or similar. This helps your team see the bigger picture, improves collaboration, and provides valuable context when troubleshooting complex issues.

Linking Work Orders is purely informational—it does not trigger any changes or actions in the linked Work Orders themselves. It’s a helpful way to increase visibility and keep related work organized.

Understanding Work Order Link Types

When linking Work Orders in UpKeep, you can choose from several relationship types to clarify how the orders are connected. Each option helps your team understand dependencies, origins, or similarities between tasks:

  • Blocked by – This Work Order cannot be completed until another Work Order is finished.

  • Blocks – This Work Order must be completed before another one can begin.

  • Splits from – This Work Order was created as a result of another Work Order being broken into smaller tasks.

  • Relates to – This Work Order is connected to another that contains useful or relevant context.

  • Duplicates – This Work Order resulted in the creation of one or more duplicate Work Orders.

  • Duplicated by – This Work Order is a duplicate of another existing Work Order.

These linking options are for reference only and do not trigger any automatic actions or dependencies. They’re a powerful way to give your team greater visibility and context when working across related jobs.
