Every UpKeep account includes a monthly credit budget per user. Credits are metered and tracked per action across Nova and Studio. The amount included depends on your plan — and if your team needs more, you can purchase additional credit packs that never expire.
What's new: credits go even further now
Since metered usage launched, the team has been optimizing how Nova uses credits behind the scenes — with answer quality verified every step of the way. The result:
Everyday questions on Nova Standard use significantly fewer credits than they did at launch
Longer conversations and multi-step tasks — bulk updates, reports, data lookups — are much more efficient
You get more out of your monthly allowance without changing how you use Nova
If you've been watching your usage in Settings → Nova & Studio, you should notice the difference. Optimizations are ongoing.
How credits work
A credit is the cost of Nova or Studio doing the work behind your request. Usage is metered and tracked per credit — so you can see exactly what's being consumed and by whom.
Key things to know:
Each user gets a monthly credit budget based on your plan
Credits are shared across Nova and Studio
Monthly credits reset each billing cycle
Simple tasks cost fewer credits; complex analysis costs more
Additional credit packs can be purchased for users who hit their monthly budget — these never expire
Included credits by plan (per user / month)
Plan | Included credits |
Essential | 250 |
Premium | 500 |
Professional | 750 |
Enterprise | 1,000 |
Tracking usage and balance
Admins can monitor credit consumption and remaining balance for the whole team in Settings → Nova & Studio. This view shows:
Per-user credit usage
Current balance vs. monthly budget
Any purchased credit pack balances (these roll over and never expire)
If a user hits their monthly budget, you can purchase additional credit packs directly from the same settings page — no need to contact support.
Nova Standard — the only mode you need
Nova now runs exclusively on Standard, the faster and more credit-efficient model. After extensive analysis and tuning, Standard delivers the same answer quality as the former Max model — at a fraction of the credit cost.
Recent optimizations have brought the average credits-per-message from 34.6 down to 9.2, making Standard suitable for everything from quick commands to complex multi-step tasks:
"Assign all WOs in Building 2 to Charles"
"What's the status of WO #4892?"
"Show me which techs are completing PMs late and why"
"Build a PM schedule for all HVAC units based on failure history"
How many credits will I use?
Credit consumption varies by task complexity and the amount of data in your account. With recent efficiency improvements, credits go significantly further than they did at launch. As a general guide:
Light users: ~50 credits/month — well within every plan's included allotment
Regular users: 100–250 credits/month — comfortably within most plans
Heavy users (bulk tasks, large datasets): May use more — credit packs are available if needed
The credit model is designed so that most customers never hit a limit. Power users who need more can purchase credit packs — everyone else just works.
Need more credits?
If a user hits their monthly credit budget, here's what to do:
Go to Settings → Nova & Studio
Review usage and balance for your team
Purchase additional credit packs directly from the page — no ticket required
Purchased credits never expire and roll over month to month, so there's no risk of losing what you buy.
FAQ
Do unused monthly credits roll over?
No — included monthly credits reset each billing cycle. Only purchased credit packs carry over.
Are Nova and Studio credits shared or separate?
Shared. Every credit used in Nova or Studio draws from the same monthly pool.
Can I see which users are consuming the most credits?
Yes — admins can view per-user credit usage in Settings → Nova & Studio.
What happens when a user runs out of credits?
They won't be able to use Nova or Studio features until the monthly budget resets or an admin purchases additional credit packs for them.
Does the credit model apply to all plans?
Yes — all plans include a monthly credit allotment per user. The amount varies by plan (see the table above).
What happened to Nova Max?
Nova Max has been removed. After analysis, the team found that Standard delivers equivalent answer quality to Max but at significantly lower credit cost. The change was made to protect customers' credit budgets — you get the same results for less.
Why am I using fewer credits than before?
The team shipped a series of efficiency optimizations that brought the average credits-per-message from 34.6 down to 9.2 — a 3x+ improvement. Improvements include reduced errors, trimmed context, more efficient tool calls, and better token caching. Answer quality is verified with evals.
