What Does It Mean to Manage and Respond to a Safety Event?

Processing a safety event means reviewing a submitted safety report, verifying the details, and deciding on appropriate next steps such as root cause analysis or initiating a CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action).

How to Review and Take Action on an Incident

  1. Select the Incident to Review

    • Navigate to the Safety Events tab in the Safety module

    • Click on the incident title you want to review

  2. Review the Safety Event Details

    • Confirm the report type, severity, location, and timeline

    • Read the description and immediate actions taken

    • Check OSHA status and audit trail if applicable

  3. Click “Take Action”

    • Click the blue Take Action button to open the Incident Actions menu

  4. Choose an Action from the Menu

    • Create CAPA: Initiate a corrective/preventive action to address the issue

    • Edit Incident: Make updates to the original report details

    • Mark as Reviewed: Confirm the report has been acknowledged and reviewed

    • Close Without Action: Resolve the incident without further follow-up if appropriate

  5. View Linked CAPAs (If Any)

    • Existing CAPAs tied to the incident appear under Linked CAPAs

    • Click View to manage or review each one

  6. Collaborate via Comments

    • Use the Comments section to tag teammates, discuss the issue, or note follow-ups

Best Practices

  • Prioritize high-severity incidents for prompt review

  • Refer to the Status Timeline to see when the report was opened or updated

  • Use the Audit Trail to review activity history or identify when key changes were made

  • Use comments and tags to support investigation history and team visibility

  • Link CAPAs to maintain traceability from report to resolution
